This afternoon was a lot of fun. I got to spend some nice quality time with the kids while they were out riding their bikes and scooters. It’s the first day that Adam had really spent much time riding and he was having a ball. I was having them ride around in the garage and on the driveway. The driveway has a bit of a downward slope as you approach the road and the faster he got going the happier he was. It’s so funny to see the differences between boys and girls. My girls are so cautious…any acceleration and they are crying out in fear and uncertainty. Adam, however, would’ve happily continued riding down the street if I’d let him. It was fun to see that twinkle in his eyes that told me he was having a great time. It’s hard for him to verbally communicate his feelings, but there was no doubt he was having a great day.

He reminds me of myself in so many different ways. Why just last week I had a similar twinkle in my eyes, hoping for an even bigger hit on the next rapid…

Of course Zoe had to get in on the action as well. It’s always nice for a photographer to have a little model in the house…and a beautiful one at that!

Talk about fun

November 17th found me at Fletcher Park near downtown Raleigh for an outdoor portrait session with the Miles family. Their kids were as crazy as ever and really seemed to have a good time.

I’ve got to hand it to Jeff and Twila. They really let the kids be themselves and everything turned out just great. The weather was perfect and the sky was just a bit overcast, resulting in some beautiful light to complement the amazing fall colors. It was really hard to narrow down the number of selections to post here so there’s a few more than usual.

A Thousand Words

Those of you who have not been blessed with children may not appreciate the first image I want to post from this session, but in reviewing the images this one made Elysa and I chuckle each time we looked at it. We remember well the days when the little ones just didn’t want to cooperate. This was near the end of the session and Abby was obviously getting disgusted with the whole process. It’s one of my favorites because it is just so real. Photography to me is about capturing genuine moments in time. As nice as it is to have everyone look into the camera and say “cheese” on cue, there are emotions that can be captured which no amount of staging can produce. In this case, the old adage about a picture being worth a thousand words rings so true…

Many of you know and love the Bisher family. They are a wonderful blessing to our church family. Blair and Sarah work very hard with the youth of our congregation in addition to operating their business “Sarah’s Cakes” which I featured in an earlier post. I had the privilege of working with their family on November 13th. These are some of the photos from that session that I would like to share with everyone. All of these photos were taken in my home studio.

I have not done the greatest job keeping the website up to date lately. Fortunately, that has been in large part due to the fact that I’ve been very busy getting my customers taken care of for Christmas. On November 10, 2007, I had the pleasure of working with Patrick and Karla Nichols and their children at Blue Jay point. It was a little bit chilly that day, but everyone did great and the fall colors were beautiful. When reviewing the images, I applied a sepia toning to this photo of Isabelle and Elysa and I were struck. It produced such a wonderfully dramatic look to an already beautiful portrait.

Supposedly they don’t like to get their picture taken, but I wouldn’t have guessed that based on the results! What do you think?

It’s Time for Christmas Cards

Well, it’s that time again. Ready or not, Christmas is only a few weeks away. Have you planned your family photo card yet? Let us help you out. I will be available for a few hours this coming Saturday, November 10, as well as on December 1, for some Christmas card sessions. These sessions will last approximately 15-20 minutes and will cost $59. This cost includes 15 4×8 photo cards with envelopes, additional cards being available according to the following pricing:

25 cards for $29, 50 cards for $49, 75 cards for $69, and 100 cards for $89

Here are the available card templates. If you prefer taking the image and getting your own cards, that is also an option for an additional $40 image use fee. Please contact me via email at kevin@lifes2shortphotography.com if you are interested in scheduling a session. I’ll be available this Saturday at BlueJay point from 1-3 pm if you would prefer an outdoor photo or on December 1 for an indoor studio session. If neither time works for you, please contact me and we’ll try to set up another time.

The Parker Family

On Saturday October 21, I had the privilege of taking some photographs of Bryan and Ginny Parker and their girls Addie and Libby before they move back to Texas in the coming weeks. The photo session was at Pullen Park here in Raleigh. The weather was beautiful and everything went very well. As you can see, Bryan and Ginny have a beautiful family. Here are some of my favorites from the session. I hope you enjoy.

Both of the girls were so patient and did so well the entire time. They both got to enjoy a fun ride on the carousel when everything was over.

Photographing Sarah’s Cakes

Last Friday night I did a photo session of some of Sarah Bisher’s cakes and cupcakes. If you have a sweet tooth like me, you’ll definitely want to check out her website .

She does an awesome job with all of her cakes and sweets. They look great and best of all they taste wonderful. If you have a special occasion coming up or are just in the mood for some really good sweets, please contact her to help you out.

The photo shoot went great. It was a big weekend for her business, so I was able to photograph several different cakes as well as a wide variety of cupcakes for her website. Stay tuned. I’ll post a couple of the images later this week to the blog.
